I’m not sure what to tell you here, as I don’t always know the answer myself. I’m from the east coast of the United States. I’ve worked a variety of jobs over the years, none of which left me as fulfilled or inspired as photography has. Video and photo have always been a passion of mine, even when all I had was a hand-me-down Razr phone in ‘07. It wasn’t until I was well into adulthood that I finally was able to purchase my very first camera; the humble Canon M50 Mark II. It took little time to acquire a small arsenal of lenses to carry across the entire island of Oahu. Street photography was quickly my preference. Nothing quite compares to capturing the ordinary in a special way. I was becoming comfortable with introducing myself as a photographer, even if the imposter syndrome felt very real. I began to shoot local events for those in my community. Knowing that these photos, these memories, I captured would be seen for years to come was extraordinarily fulfilling. This bled into my professional work, where I began to take photos and videos for my employer. Here, I learned product and commercial photography, with the specific use case of posting to social media. I didn’t really understand how difficult it was to make a drink look amazing until I sat down and actually put in the work myself. You never stop learning, especially not in such a vast field as photography.
